“Because it’s the Cup,” is the NHL’s new promotional slogan for the 2012 Stanley Cup Playoffs. Now that the tournament has entered the Conference Semifinal stage, the picture of the future league champion is becoming clearer.

Recently for the New York Rangers, the Washington Capitals are not a welcomed sight in the Stanley Cup Playoffs. Including the 2012 playoffs, Washington has won three playoff series in their five consecutive postseason appearances. Two of those three have been against the Rangers.

A seven game playoff series is not an unfamiliar occurrence for the Washington Capitals or the defending Stanley-Cup-champion Boston Bruins. Currently, the two teams are matched up against each other in the 2012 Eastern Conference Quarterfinals.
